Every once in a while a cartoon opens up to alternative interpretations. Probably every cartoon could have any number of captions. Back in the day at the New Yorker, cartoonists never captioned their pieces; they just sent them in. One can imagine the whip-smart NYer staff gathered ’round trading one liners. Anyway, this particular cartoon seems to have those sort of legs…
“Definitely trick.” (Oct. 31, 2022)
“Republicans.” (Feb. 10, 2021)
“His peeps.” (2019)
“It’s all the people he screwed.” (2018)
