Grateful

Visiting a friend the other day, he was wearing a tshirt with the word Grateful on it’s front. After making the obligatory quip about the missing word (Dead), which he evidently had heard many times before‎, I was reminded of something another friend said about being grateful in response to my New Year’s topic quest.
‎Perhaps this writing project would be better focused as: A Year of Gratitude, A Year of Gratefulness, or A Year of Giving Thanks.
I am most definitely thankful each day for the many good things in my life. But I also grumble over my shortcomings and shortfalls. That is natural I suppose. Why shouldn’t we worry over things not quite right or that could go wrong? Isn’t that what keeps things on track and makes them better? Shouldn’t we guard against the slipery slope to empty-headed  blissed out-ness?
No one approves of sloth, but do we really produce more and better out of being critical and driven?
